Rev. Cathy Bennett was born and raised in rural northwest Indiana. She graduated high school in Indiana, spent a summer working in Chicago and headed for Houston, Texas to attend the University of Houston where she majored in education. After several years of what she now likes to call Divine discontent, her life changed drastically when she met and married her former husband who was a Mexican national and she moved to Mexico City. She lived there for almost 14 years during which time, along with being the mother of two wonderful children, she became very involved in community work and social service, which was to become the foundation for her future. When she returned to Houston in 1980 she discovered Religious Science, became an avid student, and finished her Practitioner training in 1983. She met Gary Bennett an inter-church picnic in 1981. They began dating and were wed in 1983. In 1986 their work took them to Orlando, FL where she was able to finish her training and graduated Ministerial School in 1996. She was called as minister to the Miami Church of Religious Science in 1998 where she served for seven years. She has served the Religious Science organization at the national level, both as a regional youth director and as a member of the Standing Advisory Committee on Practitioner Policy. She was also on the Eastern Conference Committee five years serving as chair in 2002. The Bennetts returned to Texas in 2005 taking up residence in Woodville. At that time they affiliated once again with Creative Life where they had been charter members. Rev Cathy was given a letter of call as staff minister and Gary served as a practitioner. After a prolonged illness, her beloved Gary made his transition in 2006. She is thrilled to be a part of the Creative Life spiritual community. |
